November 3 Is the Date. Early Voting Starts October 19.
August 26, 2026
Pick the day you are going to vote, and put it on your calendar before you close this page.
Before any of that: the last day to register to vote is Monday, October 5, 2026. A registration that is not in by then does not vote in November, and no amount of planning after October 5 fixes it. Check your status first at VoteTexas.gov, then read the rest of this.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Early voting runs Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 30. During early voting you may vote at any Collin County voting center, so the location that is convenient on a Thursday afternoon does not have to be the one nearest your house.
Five dates belong on your calendar:
- Monday, October 5 — last day to register to vote.
- Monday, October 19 — first day of early voting.
- Friday, October 23 — last day for the county to receive your application for a ballot by mail.
- Friday, October 30 — last day of early voting.
- Tuesday, November 3 — Election Day.
Those dates are the Texas Secretary of State’s. Collin County sets the early voting locations and hours and posts them closer to the election, so check Collin County Elections before you go.
The ballot does not have a shortcut anymore
Texas eliminated straight-ticket voting. House Bill 25 passed in 2017 and took effect September 1, 2020, and since then there has been no box that votes a whole party at once. You mark every race individually, one at a time, from the top of the ballot to the bottom.
That is the whole reason for this post. Vote Republican in every race on your ballot.
The races that get skipped are the ones closest to you
The top of the ballot takes care of itself. Statewide races get the advertising and the yard signs, and almost nobody who walks into a voting center leaves those blank. The bottom is where turnout leaks. Judicial races and county offices sit at the end of the ballot with no television money behind them, and every cycle a share of voters stops marking before they get there.
Those are the offices that decide what happens in a Collin County courtroom and what the county spends. They are decided by the people who keep marking.
Know the ballot before you are holding it
I keep a guide to the Republican nominees on your November ballot, with my endorsements, on the 2026 Candidate Guide. Read it at your kitchen table, not in the booth. Pull your sample ballot from Collin County, sit down with the guide, and mark up a paper copy. 10 minutes at the table is the difference between voting the whole ballot and guessing at the names you have not heard of.
Name the day
Do not tell yourself you will vote sometime during early voting. Name a day and a time — Tuesday the 20th before work, Saturday the 24th after breakfast — and tell someone in your house which one you picked. A plan somebody else knows about is the one that survives a busy week.
12 days of early voting is a lot of room. Use the first week of it. Something always comes up in the second.
